211 Teen Ambassador Program is looking for volunteers to act as community educators and inform their peers regarding services and programs that are available to them when they do not know where to turn for assistance.

Volunteers distribute materials, speak with peers, and participate in panels addressing teen issues. Volunteers are required to attend a four-houring training.

211 is also looking for Call Center Operators to answer calls from individuals looking for information and referral to social service organizations. 50-hour training is required.

“Big Brothers” and “Big  Sisters” are needed to mentor at-risk elementary students (grades 3,4, & 5) in a structured program in local elementary schools. There are locations available throughout Palm Beach Country at selected schools. Volunteers will have to attend one traininng session. A weekly commitment of 1 1/2 hour meetings is required.

Boca Jets Lacrosse is a non-profit sports organization that provides a league for boys and girls from grades K - 8 to play lacrosse in Boca Raton. We are a 100% volunteer organization and have had over 300 children participate in one year.

Boca Helping Hands provides bags of groceries from its food pantry and hot meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. In addition it provides more than 1000 sandwiches and snacks a week for the children in low-income, after-school, child-care facilities in the area. Shut-in meals are also provided.

We welcome teen (16+) volunteers. The center is a wonderful place for students to volunteer because of its friendly and caring atmosphere.

TeenAge Volunteer (TAV).
Students are needed to volunteer in many departments throughout the hospital.  Duties include transporting patients, delivering flowers and messages to patients, running errands, delivering medical records to the emergency room, and attending the nurses’ station and the information desk.

Volunteers are needed on weekends and throughout the week to visit and cheer patients in physical rehabilitation program. Patients range in age from teenage to elderly.  Activities may include assisting with Bingo on Wednesday nights and reading and writing letters for residents. Orientation is provided, and volunteers usually work in teams of two.

Translating/Tutorial Program:  Each Saturday morning students meet to help migrant families and local doctors communicate at the Caridad Health Clinic.  Students also help by baby-sitting children of patients while parents are busy with the doctor.  Often Spanish speaking students help older members of the families learn English.  Although open to everyone, this is an excellent opportunity for students in the Spanish curriculum to practice and perfect Spanish.

The CAREing Foundation is a drug and alchohol prevention program using arts as the vehicle. There is a need for teens to volunteer approximately one day a week as:

-Volunteer Site Artist Mentors to work with the artist once a week at sites around Palm Beach County. (They will find a site near you.)

-Volunteer Office Assistant to update the database, answer phones and mail out letters.

Tutors/Mentors.  Enthusiastic and committed volunteers are needed to help with youth activities at Carver Estates public housing in Delray. These include homework help, one-on-one reading, computers, inside and outside free play, sports, art activities, gardening, etc. with elementary school age students from 2:15 to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Also similar activities with our Teen Club members from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Come and join us!

Refugees arrive in the U.S. with little or no possessions other than the clothes on their backs. Through our refugee program, Catholic charities provide them with basic furniture and linenes, but these supplies are always in high demand.

Volunteers can make it possible for us to extend a helping hand. You can find out what new arrivals need; organize a donation to collect supplies; or hoep our agency transport donated goods.

Other responsibilities include: conduct inventory; pick up and deliver donations.

Marketing voluntters are also needed to help us distribute our communications resources as posters and flyers around the communitities. Responsibilities may include processing invitations, data entry, and keeping promotional material current.

Bilingual speakers (English-Spanish/Creole) is a plus but not required for volunteer positions.

Helpers for Humanity:  Various jobs are available from clerical to construction during the building of a habitat home. Physical labor from painting to roofing to planning are all greatly needed. Work is usually scheduled on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m.. to 5:00 p.m. Students must have a signed release form to participate and be accompanied by at least one chaperone 18 years of age or older.

Leader and Sidewalker. Students are needed to aid handicapped youngsters with riding instruction. Training is provided to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences for both the rider and the volunteers.  (Prior horse experience is not necessary.)  Volunteers will be asked to commit to a specific riding class. Students to groom and feed the horses, clean the stalls, etc, are also needed. If you love horses, this is a great volunteer opportunity!

Looking for volunteers to staff our Thrift Store in Tequesta on Saturdays and during the summer. Store hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and we are open Wednesday through Saturday. Choose your hours and be part of an exciting team that partners with people in need, building affordable homes in our community. Responsibilities include pricing stock, cash register, answering the phone and helping customers as needed. With the profits from our store, we are able to continue our mission helping people in need.

Volunteers are also needed for construction sites (must be 16 years or older). Construction will begin at the end of September 2004 and continue through the school year.
