Mission:
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children
with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the
human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida serves Miami-Dade,
Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River,
Okeechobee, Highlands, Monroe, Hendry, Glades, Collier
and Lee. OUr biggest cities include Miami, Fort Lauderdale,
West Palm Beach, Stuart, Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach, Fort
Pierce, Key West, Naples, and Fort Myers counties. The
average cost of a wish is $5,000.
The Kids for Wish Kids® (elementary, middle school
ages) and Wishmakers® (high school and college ages)
programs are fundraising programs implemented int he schools,
religious organizations, and community/civic organizations
to raise funds and community awareness on behalf of Make-A-Wish.

Memorial Adult Day Care Center provides supervised recreational
and therapeutic activities for dependent adults. Volunteers
are needed to assist with various activities: story telling,
drama, and community projects.

Join
the fun at the Museum of Art / Fort Lauderdale -- become
a volunteer!
Volunteers support the Museum staff in a wide variety of
functions: greeting visitors, working at the admissions
counter, assisting at lectures and special events, and helping
out at our Creative Summer Art Camp. The Museum also has
opportunities for docents. Scheduling is flexible to fit
your needs, and training is provided to ensure that you're
comfortable in your volunteer position.
The Museum has many unusual new exhibitions on its calendar,
which means that volunteering will give you the inside track
to experiencing firsthand the fun and excitement of working
behind the scenes at the Museum of Art / Fort Lauderdale.

Volunteer
training is held at the Museum and is required prior to
choosing a volunteer opportunity. The Museum requires 4
hours of service per week for a period of 6 months.
Volunteer opportunities include exhibit explainers, greeters
and ticket takers, manning the concierge desk, gift store
assistant, survey takers, store assistant, IMAX usher, life
science assistant, administrative assistant, and working
with animals (if you are over 16).

The Ocean
Watch Foundation is a grass roots volunteer organization
involved in marine conservation and educational projects
to preserve the local coral reef environment.
We need volunteers for the following tasks: Beach cleaner;
advertising, fundraising, operations, pr;, Annual Reef
Sweep and Beach Clean-up. Since 1988 more than 4,000 volunteers
have hauled more than 10 tons of harmful garbage from
various beach sites.

This
organization has two large Family Fun Days in November
and December. The Winterfest Parade is scheduled for December
17, 2005. In addition, they hold events 3-4 times a year
at local elementary schools.
This is a great activity for groups of VolunTeens to work
together. Volunteers are needed to sell drinks, take tickets,
set up and break down, and a variety of other tasks. |
